I have been with Bassets now for about 10 years, I have always admired their characters, they are such comedians, and very loyal.
It all started when I bought my 1st basset hound from the Siouxline kennels he was purely a pet and I loved him dearly, then I decided I would try my hand at showing a basset, so I bought another boy from this kennel, this was to be my 1st show dog (Siouxline Joseph ) Joseph, was a tri colour and he is a full brother to CHAMPION Siouxline Joshua..
I entered the show ring and did exceptionally well with Joseph, he won lots of open placing's with Best of Breeds and when I progressed to the champ shows, we were always placed. Now I had been bitten by the bug and showing was to become very much a part of my life
Later I bought my first bitch (Moragden Mariella by Siouxline) Marie. She too was shown with some success. Marie was later mated to Joseph and produced the wonderful Daisy.
Daisy in turn has gone on to produce some lovely babies for us. Sadly Joseph has now passed on but Marie is now a great grandma in her own right, still bouncing out every morning to greet you, a lot grayer now but still the same Marie.

Since my divorce and moving in with Vicky i have had to be around Labradors, they are not a breed that I would say yes i will go and buy , but having been in at the deep end with Vicky and watching her delivering them, and seeing what she picks in a litter and following them through, i cannot say that i will ever be an expert. But i am learning.!!!!!!!
I think that losing Joseph hit me a lot harder and now with my back getting worse i am having great difficulty in getting down and showing my bassets, which is a great shame, because i needed to get back into the ring and i have some nice dogs, which i feel are worthy to go in the ring, i think if we do get to go to a basset show, Vicky will be doing the showing,or one of the children, i think i will always have my bassets around, its is a breed that i don't think i would ever be without, we have made many new friends, and lots of the children of the families that have our babies, have said that they would like to have a go in the show ring. I have decided that Labs may be easier for me to go into, NO BENDING DOWN so Vicky has said show a baby and follow her through. I am at the moment showing Abbey ( Widgerwood She's the One ) we have bonded well, she is a lovely baby, My first show effort was a local show she won the graduate class got best puppy in breed reserve best of breed, we were off to a flying start, when i came down to earth and thought about things, maybe it was beginners luck!!!!.
Our second show was a breed show, this i thought would sort me out, but no, we sailed through minor puppy, maiden bitch, reserve in novice, and went on to win reserve best puppy in show, this was brilliant, we beat some lovely Labradors, and made some good friends, and we only lost to Fiona Braddon with her Lovely boy Trendlewood Only to Fly. We had a great day, and Vicky had her ears ringing by me all the way home.
Our 3rd show, by this time i am on cloud nine and not going to be pushed off this cloud very easily, at this show again i had to take Abbey into the a higher class because Vicky took Abbey's brother in the puppy class, luckily this time, i didn't win but, as i was not beaten by a puppy, i had to challenge and won, so again best puppy in breed, and 3rd in puppy group.
I now have to admit i am having fun with Abbey, and i do know that i will be beaten at some stage, but it has made not showing my bassets so much easier, i will never replace or forget Joseph, he was the best, but Abbey is so sweet and very pretty, she is gaining confidence with me, and i am with her.
So watch this space.!!!!!!!!!!!
Maybe! when my back is operated on, i can get back out and show the bassets again, but until then they will be on the back burner, i will enjoy watching them, run in the fields.
